Transforming Your Entryway: The Concrete Overlay

One of our popular services is concrete overlay, a fantastic way to enhance the look and functionality of existing concrete surfaces. Today, we’re sharing the step-by-step process of a recent concrete overlay project to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how we create stunning, durable entryways.

Step 1: Assessing the Existing Concrete

The first step in any successful concrete overlay project is to ensure the existing concrete surface is strong and clean. We carefully inspect the concrete to check for any cracks, chips, or structural issues. It's crucial that the foundation is solid, as this ensures the longevity and durability of the overlay.

Step 2: Preparing the Surface

Once we confirm that the concrete is in good condition, we prepare the surface by cleaning it thoroughly. This involves removing any dirt, debris, or stains that could interfere with the adhesion of the new overlay materials. A clean, well-prepped surface is key to a successful project.

Step 3: Applying the Adhesive

Next, we apply a strong adhesive to the concrete surface. This glue is specifically designed to bond the coping blocks securely to the concrete, ensuring they stay in place over time. We carefully position each coping block, making sure they are aligned and properly adhered.

Step 4: Adding the Geotextile Fabric and Chip Stone

With the coping blocks in place, we lay down a layer of geotextile fabric. This fabric acts as a barrier, preventing weeds and other plants from growing through the overlay. On top of the fabric, we spread a layer of 3/8” chip stone. This stone creates a level bedding layer for the pavers, ensuring a smooth and even surface.

Step 5: Laying the Pavers

After preparing the bedding layer, we carefully lay the pavers down. This step requires precision and attention to detail, as the pavers need to be evenly spaced and aligned. We take our time to ensure each paver is placed perfectly, creating a beautiful and cohesive design.

Step 6: Infill and Sealing

With all the pavers in place, we move on to the infill process. We fill the gaps between the pavers with a special infill material that helps to lock them in place. Once the infill is complete, we apply a high-quality sealant to the entire surface. This sealant not only enhances the appearance of the pavers but also protects them from weathering, stains, and wear.

Step 7: Enjoying the New Entryway

With the project complete, it’s time to enjoy the stunning new entryway! A concrete overlay not only enhances the curb appeal of your home but also provides a durable and long-lasting surface. Whether you’re welcoming guests or simply enjoying the view, a well-executed concrete overlay project is sure to impress.
